It's just me, thinking out loud

What If?

on June 21, 2010

“What” and “if” are two non-threatening words that when put together can haunt you for the rest of your life. – Sophie, Letters to Juliet

What If?

What if the lightning didn’t struck your rice fields?
Would you have more options?
Would you go for the one you really want?
If you did choose the one you like,
Would you have become who you want to be?
Would you now have the courage to face me?
The strength to tell me?
Would you be here beside me?
Holding my hand for real and not in my dreams?

What if your fears are without basis?
What if I am still wisihing for the simple things are before?
What if I tell you that you’re my life’s biggest “what if”?
What if we tried just for once?
What if we discovered that we can work it out?

But what if, these are all just illusions?
What if you’re right, that I can’t be with you even if I want to?
What if I am all part of the forgotten past now?
What if, it’s good enough that we never tried?
What if we just ended up both with broken hearts?

“What if”….
It presents both boundless directions.
It presents an infinity of not knowing.
“What if”
But despite of the countless possibilities we could think of,
There is no definite answer…
We’ll never know…
Unless we stop asking “What if”
And be brave enough to face the consequences
No matter what.

-This was inspired by the movie “Letters to Juliet”, it made me wonder, 50 years from now…will I still be asking “what if”?

Did you write all of that?

I didn’t watch that movie yet. Is it good? But, the quote by Sophie is a really good quote. And I think it’s very true.

Just asking. Is the ‘you’ in the 1st line of the 2nd stanza supposed to be ‘your’?

Lesson: Don’t ask ‘what if’ but just do it.

    Lines that I like:
Holding my hand for real and not in my dreams?
What if I tell you that you’re my life’s biggest “what if”?
    I like stanza 3 a lot. =)

Yup, I wrote it over lunch break, that’s why it’s quite rush.

About the film, it’s a feel good movie, will really make you reminisce.

      Thanks for your comment 😀
