One More Time- Boys Over Flowers Tidbits (Part9)

One More Time

One More Time!

ABS-CBN will re-run my favorite Koreanovela of all time, Boys Over Flowers as a gift to its fans for Christmas. No timeslot announcements have been made until now but it will be a part of the Primetime Bida, I’m just hoping that it will shown anytime from 8:30PM onwards, so that I may be able to watch it, but I think the likelihood is remote, so I guess BOF will retain it’s timeslot the first time it was shown. But I’m still hoping that my dear, Jun Pyo’s schedule will match mine πŸ™‚

Lots of Laugh – Boys over Flowers Tidbits (Part 3)

xxx

Apart from making us all swoon, Boys Over Flowers really tickled us with its humor so I’m listing down the scenes that made me laugh:

1. When Jan Di went to the hospital all worried about Jun Pyo. You can see it coming but I can’t help but laugh while she was crying for him, telling him to wake up. When Jun Pyo finally woke up after hearing that she’ll now say whatever it is that she wants to hear, I was really laughing so hard. Jun Pyo teasing Jan Di was really cute.

2. When Jun Pyo was forcing Jan Di to say “oppa, I’m sorry”, when she was apologizing giving him an apple.

3. Jun Pyo thinking that “genie” is a rival for Jan Di’s love when he prepared for a lunch by the shore at New Caledonia.

4. Jun Pyo answering Jan Di’s call, when she asked him to go on a double date. Jun Pyo overdoing his player tactics was really funny.

5. When Jun Pyo jumped into the conclusion that the reason why Jan Di was going against him and even confronted him telling him that she hadn’t even had her first kiss yet, was because she likes him.

6. Jun Pyo eating more than 20 fish cakes.

7. Jun Pyo pulling Jae Kyung instead of Jan Di. That scene wasn’t really new at all but it still made me laugh.

8. Jan Di explaining to the hotel staff in Venetian Macau in her broken english that she is looking for Gu Jun Pyo.

9. Ga Eul crying by the street while all the passersby are thinking that it was Yi Jung that made her cry.

10. Jun Pyo saying that the weather is good when in fact there’s thunder and lightning because he’s in the mood, beginning to fall in love with Jan Di.

151001172_L

11. Jun Pyo fidgetting waiting for Jan Di on their class trip to Europe.

12. A jealous Jun Pyo at the airport, when Ji Hoo kissed Jan Di before boarding for the next plane to follow Seo Hyun.

13. Everytime Jun Pyo is scared of bugs.

14. Jun Hee pinching Jun Pyo’s ears because he was caught intimidating the principal to get Jan Di and Ji Hoo expelled.

15. Jun Pyo amazed with the Jun Pyo shaped chocolates that Jan Di gave him on Valentine’s day.

16. Jun Pyo asking Ji Hoo to punch him after his birthday celebration, to make things even between the two of them after their Macau Airport incident.

17. When Jun Pyo announced that Jan Di is now her girlfriend.

18. Jun Pyo running away when Jan Di fooled him that there’s a snake on his feet while they were on N
19. Jan Di’s phone ringing when Jun Pyo was about to kiss her.

20. Jun Pyo sneezing when he was about to kiss Jan Di after giving her the heart-moon necklace.

21. The first time Jun Pyo ate ramen at Jan Di’s house using the lid.

22. When Jan Di became Jun Pyo’s personal maid and she was asked by Jun Pyo to cook ramen the commoner’s way.

23. When Jun Pyo and Jan Di watched the horror film.

korea-lee-min-ho-003

BOF was really entertaining, Jun Pyo was the funniest of all. I really love Jun Pyo, he made me cry, fall in love and most especially, laugh. BOF was really a Korean Drama experience of a lifetime.

Illogical – Boys Over Flowers Tidbits (Part 2)

20090516042043

After writing about my favorite BOF scenes let me write about the negative side of the series. Come on, let’s face it, there is no such thing as perfect, no matter how much you like something it can’t be denied that it has flaws.

First, the songs used were great, in fact I downloaded it ‘though I really don’t understand the Korean language at all, thanks to SOEul love at you tube ’cause his/her uploaded videos contains english subtitles for some of the songs. The down side is, the timing on which the songs were played, the appropriateness and the over usage. There were some episodes where the song “Almost Paradise” was overused, that includes playing the song during a fight scene.

Next, the abuse of the F3 super hero thing. I know, the plot needs that ingredient but it was abused. Like when F3 came to save Jan Di and Jun Pyo from Jae He’s group.

Third, I don’t hate Jan Di but I think it could’ve been better if her character is not stupid, Meteor Garden’s Shan Cai is smart. I think that’s better.

I also can’t understand why Yi Jung keeps on saying that Ga-Eul isn’t pretty when obviously she really is.

151003237_L

Also, I think they missed some details like allowing Jan Di to use the same shoes with broken heels when they are about to go home. If she can’t barely walk with them the night before then how is it possible for her to use the same pair the morning after. Another thing is Jan Di’s gift which she left at Ji Hoo’s car, when you go on a birthday party you’re supposed to bring the gift with you, right? I can’t remember seeing her carrying the paper bag when she went to the party. Another one is when Jae Kyung arrived at the Macau airport and found the box of shoes that was supposed to be for Jan Di. If you can recall, according to Jae Kyung’s parents she went to Hong Kong, as we know Hong Kong is just a ferry away from Macau so why is she on the aiport? Also, at New Caledonia when Jun Pyo followed Ji Hoo in a kayak. He can’t swim right? and he threw his paddle? How was he able to go back? Also, of all the sweet gestures of Jun Pyo I find him putting all those salt scrubs and soaps on the pool the most illogical. We’ve seen him splurge over fancy things but the pool thing isn’t convincing.

As with the acting, the Geum family were a bit OA at some parts especially Daddy Geum. Also, for the first few episodes there were times when Jan Di was OA.

Last, there are certain plotlines that I don’t buy. First, Jun Pyo becoming a Managing Director for ShinHwa Group immediately after finishing high school. Of course, he’s the heir and the blood of being a businessman runs in his blood but such a thing can’t happen over night. I mean, he could’ve undergone training for the past six months that he didn’t contact Jan Di and F3 and Madam Kang remains as chairman but still to undertake a major project overseas is no joke, even a fresh latin honor graduate of a premiere business school will find a hard time and here Jun Pyo is a high schooler. Oh well, the plot needs it but it could’ve been presented in a more convincing way like handling a small subsidiary as training. Another one is the selective amnesia thing, ok the plot needs it and I think it’s also in the original HanaDan (I haven’t watched the original). While watching, I first thought that he could be faking it, it could be his way of letting go Jan Di and giving Ji Hoo a chance since he feels like he caused her too much pain, I think this could’ve been a better thing, no offense. I also don’t buy the Yumi thing, I don’t know I just hate her, it would’ve been better if it was Jae Kyung. Also, the Grandpa thing, they should’ve made it clear what’s behind the guilt of Grandpa that he left Ji Hoo alone. Also, I know how desperate they were to give Woo Bin his own subplot but the bridge scene seems like a waste of time, it was forced there is no flow of logic. I can’t see the point why Woo Bin is ashamed because aside from his Mafia connection, he is the heir of their real estate company. As with Yi Jung’s mother, they should’ve made it clear what happened to her. Jan Di’s tantrums when she was embarassed that Ji Hoo saw her in the comfort room her ’cause she forgot to lock the doors, it was overacting. The need for both Ji Hoo and Jan Di to lose their wallets just for Ji Hoo to perform, they could’ve done it better.

Oh well, no matter how imperfect BOF is, there’s a story in it’s core that touched the hearts of many and that includes me. Things like these are supposed to entertain us, so why should we be bothered by the flaws, right? Let’s just take it as it is and enjoy after all we can’t deny that it made us laugh, cry and even fall in love. The series was undeniably a success if ratings are to be used as basis. Let me borrow a quote from an anonymous author, “You cannot argue with success as there is no accounting for taste.”

My Favorite Scenes- Boys over Flowers Tidbits (Part 1)

edit

I know that since I am here in the Philippines I shouldn’t blog about this very soon for spoilers can’t be avoided as I write down but I think it will be best for me to write it down now since the story is still fresh in my mind, not that I’ll forget it soon, it’s too beautiful to be forgotten easily but my BOF passion is burning so alive today so today is the best day. Apologies, for the spoilers.

Here are my favorite BOF scenes:

1. The kissing scene in the middle of the traffic.

498695e73e0cffuw0

Jun-pyo shook off his mother’s hand and yelled at the driver to stop. Leaving his mother glowering, Jun-pyo storms out of the car and walks straight for Jan-di, thinking, β€œGeum Jan-di, stay right there. Please just stay.” Then he kissed her in the middle of the traffic. The scene was then followed by their conversation which goes like this:

Jun-pyo: β€œPromise me.”
Jan-di: β€œPromise what?”
Jun-pyo: β€œIf something happens, you’ll tell me right away.”
Jan-di (nodding): β€œOkay.”
Jun-pyo: β€œOne more thing. No matter what happens, you won’t run away from me.”
Jan-di: β€œNow that, I can’t promise.”
Jun-pyo: β€œWhat?”
Jan-di: β€œYou know, I’ve wanted to run away a few times, but it was because of you, not your mother.”
Jun-pyo: β€œHey!”
Jan-di: β€œI’ll promise. Whatever happens, your mother won’t be a reason for that.”
Jun-pyo: β€œIt’s a good thing you’re Geum Jan-di.”
Jan-di: β€œWhy?”
Jun-pyo: β€œI’m really glad that the commoner gangster Geum Jan-di is my girlfriend.”

The scene perfectly depicted their “Against All Odds” love story. Going beyond the scene itself it symbolizes how different Jan Di and Jun Pyo’s worlds are and yet despite all the odds they fell in love with each other.

Leagues does exist that’s why love is there to defy whatever boundaries these leagues create.

This scene made me fall in love with Gu Jun Pyo more and also made me wish for someone to love me the way he loves Jan Di.

2. The scene wherein Jun Pyo and Jan Di were dancing after Jun Pyo successfully ditched his wedding with Jae-Kyung. Jun Pyo’s lines were truly touching.

Jan-di: β€œI’ve been wanting to ask you something… Why me? I’m not pretty, and I don’t have money, a distinguished name, or anything. Why did you like me?”
Jun-pyo: β€œBecause I have all that.”
Jan-di: β€œWhat?”
Jun-pyo: β€œMoney, name, looks β€” I have all that. I don’t need that from you. All you have to be is Geum Jan-di.”

He loves her and he doesn’t need anything from her. She doesn’t have to offer him anything but just be herself…and that’s sweet.

3. When Jan Di finally admitted to Jun Hee that she’s not okay.

Jan Di was at Jun Pyo’s room reminiscing her moments with him as she broke down Jun-hee passes by and comforts her, telling her to let it all out. Jan-di sobs that she’d lied earlier: β€œI’m not okay. I went to see Jun-pyo because I missed him, but I can’t believe he changed so completely.”

Her emotions that she was trying so hard to be kept hidden was suddenly outpoured. This scene made me cry, I can feel Jan Di’s pain. I think this is Gu Hye Sun’s moment as an actress.

4. Ji Hoo and Jan Di’s scene by the pool.

Jan-di: β€œI know that I’m not pretty, I’m not smart, I’m not rich. But there was one thing I liked, that I could do better than other people. They say I have to quit β€” I can’t swim anymore. What do I do now?”

I’m a crybaby this scene made me cry for personal reasons. This scene was really touching, nothing could ever be worse than finding out that the one thing you love doing is suddenly taken away from you, I guess it feels just as much as painful as losing your one great love and at this point Jan Di is at the brink of losing hers.

5. The bridge scene at Macau when Jun Pyo told Jan di that she is a stain he wanted to erase.

This is really the most painful, it made me cry. I know that I should have faith on Jun Pyo’s love but he’s acting was so convincing that I almost believed that he doesn’t love her anymore. If I were Jan Di I would’ve believed him really.

6. The confrontation between Jun Pyo and Madam Kang where Jun Pyo was in a rage while tears are falling from his eyes.

β€œShe’s not just β€˜that kind of girlβ€˜! She’s the first girl that I β€” YOUR SON β€” ever loved.”

This somehow erased the pain of the bridge scene, it was really moving I can feel Jun Pyo’s dilemma. This scene brought out the genuine acting talent of Lee Min Ho.

7. The funniest of all scenes, when Jun Pyo acted dying just to get Jan Di confess her true feelings.

Despite the scene’s predictability it still made me laugh so much. Especially when they were teasing Jan Di because of her unmatching shoes. This is a cute scene, Jan Di was so embarassed and you can see how happy Jun Pyo is for finally getting what he wants from her.

8. The Jun Hee – Jun Pyo scene, the night before Jun Pyo’s wedding day.

Jun Hee: β€œHow much are you prepared to go through?”
Jun-pyo: β€œHow much will it take?”
Jun-hee: β€œEverything. Family, Shinhwa Group, and maybe even your name as Gu Jun-pyo.”
Jun-Hee: β€œWhatever you decide, I’ll understand. And no matter what you do or where you are, the fact won’t change that you’re the little brother I love.”

I really love Jun Hee’s character, this scene is so full of wisdom. I think she’s the only person who knows exactly what Jun Pyo is going through at that moment and she’s not there to persuade him which road to take but rather to understand him and support him whichever way he chooses.

9. Jun Pyo and Jan Di’s bickering while they were in the hospital because of Jan Di’s kidnapping incident.

Jun-pyo: β€œIdiot. Stupid. Double-digit-IQ dummy. How could I do that when you were captured? I’d rather get all my ribs broken than let them damage one of your fingers. But still, why did you rush in when I was letting them beat the hell out of me? What if something happened?”

It was funny and sweet at the same time and yet so Jun Pyo and Jan Di.

10. Jun Pyo rescuing Jan Di in the midst of a snowstorm.

β€œI came to find your heart. I didn’t lose it on purpose.”

This scene really made me wish to have someone to save me. It was really touching that Jun Pyo did everything he can to save Jan Di who also did everything she can just to prove Jun Pyo that she didn’t intentionally lost the necklace.

12. When Jun Pyo carried Jan Di after being beaten up by her fellow Shinwa students because she was accused to be fooling around due to the hotel pictures.

Jan-di: “I didn’t do it, really.”
Jun-Pyo: “It doesn’t matter. So keep your mouth shut.”
Jan-Di: “You still don’t believe me, do you?”
Jun-pyo: “I do, I believe you!”

The scene appears akward since it looks like a brother saving his younger sister but the way Jun Pyo delivered his lines was touching.

13. “Tell me not to do it”, the scene before the wedding when Jun Pyo was implying to Jan Di that all she has to do is ask.

Jan-Di: β€œYou’re a coward. You aren’t being forthright with anybody. You’re not facing things, you’re running away. If you run away like this now, it’ll happen again someday.”

I understand why Jan Di refused to say it, how can you ask someone to give up everything for you when you know that there is nothing about you that you can offer but your love. ‘Though of course “love” is such a big thing but let’s face it, it’s not really everything.

14. When Jun Pyo was wiping Jan Di’s face after saving her but he can’t seem to control the beating of his heart so he threw her the towel instead.

This so cute and sweet.

13. When Jun Pyo was cleaning Jan Di’s wounds then gave her a kiss on her forehead when she fell asleep.

It’s so sweet of him to tend to her, to think that he has plenty of servants to do things for him. He even has someone to put his shoe on and yet he’s there cleaning up somebody else’s wounds.

14. When Jun Pyo broke down at the airport after he punched Ji Hoo and Jan Di chose to leave with him.

I can feel his pain, how torn he is, how much she wanted her, how much he wanted to be with her and yet he can’t do anything because of the circumstances. Another Lee Min Ho moment to make his talent shine.

15. Jan Di’s last attempt at making Jun Pyo remember who she is by telling him things about himself that only Jan Di knows.

Jan-di: β€œGu Jun-pyo. I’ll ask just one more thing. Do you know how to swim?”
Jun-pyo: β€œSwim? I don’t swim.”
Jan-di: β€œYou don’t, or you can’t?”
Jun-pyo: β€œI have a bad childhood memory, so I don’t swim. I’ve never learned.”
Jan-di: β€œNo. You did know how.”
Jan-di: β€œYou’re hardly afraid of anything in this world, yet you shake in fear over a bug. You’re an idiot who thinks it’s better to get all your ribs bashed in than see one of your girl’s fingers break. You’re a dummy who can’t tell the difference between the words privacy and pride, who insists like a train that swallowed its heart that the 38th Strategy is running away. You say you hate kids, but you want to be a devoted father who watches the stars with your son. You’re a lonely person with a lot of love.”

The scene shows that despite of him forgetting her, she still has faith in the love they shared.

16. Jan Di-Ji Hoo the day before the wedding.

Ji-hoo: β€œAfter meeting you, there’s only been one thing I wish for β€” for you to be happy, and not cry anymore. I’m afraid that after tomorrow, you won’t be able to smile again.”
Jan-di: β€œDon’t worry. I will be able to smile,”

Jan Di rejected Ji Hoo’s handkerchief, telling him that her tears are so used to be wiped by him that’s why they are so needy.

I can feel Jan Di’s pain and how great a friend Ji Hoo is.

17. When Jun Pyo showed Jan Di his heart, the heart shaped moss at New Caledonia.

One of his sweetest and most expensive gestures. I was smiling the whole time wishing for someone to take me to New Caledonia.

18. I love how Jan Di and Jun Pyo clandestinely looked at each other during the fireworks display at New Caledonia.

Stolen glances are really sweet.

19. Jun Pyo making an extra special dinner for Jan Di at New Caledonia trying to make up for not being able to save her.

Again, it was really sweet how he is really trying to win her heart. With his status, he easily gets whatever it is that he wants so for him to exert so much of an effort must mean that he likes her so much.

20. Jun-pyo giving Jan Di a necklace he designed and ordered himself. He’s the star, and she’s the moon inside, because Jun-pyo the Star won’t ever leave Jan-di the Moon.

β€œThere’s only one like it in the world, so if you lose it, you’re really dead this time.”

The scene was cute but Meteor Garden’s version was better.

21. β€œI know that if I lose you, I’ll regret it till I die.” One of the sweetest Jun Pyo lines, can’t say anything more.

22. When Ga Eul confronted Yi Jung that his strong rejection about the concept of soulmate actually means that deep down in his heart he believes it.

I think this is the turning point of whatever it is that they have. Ga Eul a believer of happy endings falling for a guy who doesn’t.

23. The pool scene before the wedding day when Jun Pyo told Ji Hoo that he can’t give up Jan Di.

Again, I can fell how strongly Jun Pyo wants her and how he sincerely appreciates all the things that Ji Hoo did for both of them. As much as he doesn’t want to be selfish, he loves her period.

24. β€œI told you, it can’t be anyone but you.” I was so shocked with what happened, I wasn’t expecting it and at the same time Jun Pyo’s words made me nervous that the Korean Hana Yori Dango will truly be different form the original.

25. The bar scene when Jun Pyo told Jan Di that she is something ’cause she’s the only girl that caught his eye.

This is Jun Pyo’s first confession at it was really cute how both of them reacted.

26. β€œW-what is it you hate so much about me? I’m good-looking. I’m tall, I’m smart, I’m rich. How β€” how can you hate Gu Jun-pyo? Are you stupid?”

The first time Jun Pyo attempted to help Jan Di was so cute. It shows how frustrated he is that the only girl he likes doesn’t like him back and yet he doesn’t lose his usual conceited behavior.

27. Jun Pyo throwing his cellphone at the hotel lobby after texting Ji Hoo to pick up Jan Di.

Another Lee Min Ho moment, he acted the scene very well. He’s in so much pain that he almost can’t do anything for Jan Di but to ask Ji Hoo to be the one to be there for Jan Di. He must’ve have been afraid that Jan Di will eventually fall for his best friend and he has no one to blame but himself.

28. When Yi Jung punched Jun Pyo in defense of Jan Di at Macau. It’s more like Yi Jung telling him that he’s going crazy finding the love of his life while Jun Pyo already has his and yet he is throwing it all away.

I also love these lines by Jun Pyo:

Jun-pyo: β€œ700 thousand. That’s the number of Shinhwa employees and family members I have to take responsibility for β€” 700 thousand. Try taking on 700 thousand lives, and see if you don’t change.”

I know that he still loves her but the moment he said these words it feels like he decided to use his mind over his heart.

29. β€œWhatever he has to say, I came to hear it directly from him. I’ll have to face him.” so painful and so Jan Di, these words are really brave.

30. When Jun Pyo told Woo Bin that he knows that Ji Hoo is just using Jan Di to get over Seo-Hyun and that makes him more unforgivable.

He really loves her ’cause it’s as if that he’s implying that if Ji Hoo really likes her it’s fine but he can’t afford to see Jan Di fooled by anyone.

boysbeforeflowerswrapsup

I know I should’ve just posted the summary here, that’s why I stopped at number 30 ’cause I can still think of a lot of beautiful scenes but I’m saving it for my next post. πŸ™‚
